4 weeks old!

April 19, 2006

Well, we made it through the first month and we haven’t seriously hurt the baby yet.  In fact, at our 4 week checkup, the pediatrician said that Alex is doing very well.  He is now 13 lbs. and 23.5 inches long.  That puts him in the 97% percentile for this age.  I guess this explains why he likes to eat so much.

Alex has learned a few new tricks in the past week.  He is now focusing well on faces and his eyes will follow you as you move - as long as you stay within the viewing range that doesn’t require much head movement.  If you lay Alex on his stomach and he’s in a good enough mood to stay there for a couple minutes, he is likely to turn his head from one side to the other.  He’s also getting better at holding up his head, as you can see (slightly) in the following picture:

I think we are just a couple weeks away from regular smiles - he gets them out occasionally now.

Alex has a lot of cute looks, but our favorite is still when he is asleep.
