Daddy’s Funny

17 06 2008

I know people want to know more about Patrick, but quite honestly, he doesn’t do much these days. Eats and sleeps.

Alex, on the other hand, can be a constant source of entertainment.

I got him out of bed this morning. He wasn’t in a great mood. He didn’t want me to change his diaper, and he didn’t want me to get him dressed. When I put him on the changing table, he just whined. To cheer him up, I tried singing songs.

“Can you sing, ‘Twinkle, twinkle…'” I started.

He cut me off right away. “No! No!” he said.

“Can you sing, ‘Baa baa black sheep…'”

Once more he interrupted. “No! No! No!”

So I got creative. Using the tune of Mary had a little lamb, I asked,

“Can you sing, ‘No no no no no no no?'”

This time, instead of interrupting me, he just stared at me for a moment, a little confused, and then said, “No…?”

“There!” I said in a cheerful voice. “I knew you could do it!”

Right away, he started laughing and laughing. “Daddy funny!” he said.

The Brothers Meet

10 06 2008

I don’t have a lot of time today to put up many new photos, but here are two pictures from Alex and Patrick’s second meeting. This time, Alex seemed more interested in the baby. Especially when the nurse was changing his diaper, and he kept pooping, and pooping, and pooping some more. Alex kept pointing that out. “He’s poopy!”

Also, now that Patrick’s gradually looking less like a just-been-born infant, I’m starting to see more of the differences between the two kids. I now think Patrick will have my coloring, not Molly’s. His skin is much redder than Alex’s, his eyes aren’t as blue, and his hair seems a little darker.

I still don’t think I’ve completely realized that Patrick’s going to be his own little person, and not just a clone of Alex. I have in-depth experience with raising exactly one boy, and I guess I’m going to be surprised every time the second boy isn’t the same as the first one!

Brothers (II)Brothers

Introducing Patrick

9 06 2008

Patrick McMahon Dewey was born at 11:44 AM today. He weighs 9 lb. 10 oz. (1 oz shy of his brother — but his brother got to spend an extra 12 days in the womb), and he’s 22 and a half inches long (exactly the same as his brother). Mom & Baby are doing great.

Pictures from the first day are here:

One of the most often asked questions today: Does he look like Alex? More than anything, I think he looks like a baby — but I think he and Alex have a resemblance. When I see this picture, for instance, I think, That’s Alex! Time will tell if the resemblance holds.

This picture makes me think of Alex
