Say it ain’t so!

26 08 2011

This is the scene that awaited us upon returning from vacation.

It's Still Summer!

It’s still summer!

How was vacation?

It was wet.

And warm.

Speaking of facepaint

3 08 2011

One from the archives… at the beginning of July, the whole family went to our piano teacher’s wedding. They hired a babysitter for the kids, and the babysitter brought face paints (!). Here’s Patrick Bear, tearing up the dance floor at the wedding:

And this is from today. Another sunny Wednesday, another concert at University Village. Alex waited in line for an hour, quite patiently, to get his dinosaur face mask. I think it was worth it, don’t you? (Going to bed tonight, it still looked like he was wearing eye liner.)

Looking Harder for Summer

19 07 2011

This summer, we had to look harder for summer, but we still found it in little pockets here and there. Saturday morning started gloomy, but we had a few hours of nice weather in the afternoon and we got the kids out to Ravenna Park. I’m happy with the pictures.

(P.S. For those out of town, you may be amused that our local paper computed that we’ve had 78 minutes of summer-like weather in Seattle so far this year.)

Happy belated Father’s Day

20 06 2011

By pure happenstance, I was the parent tasked with taking both kids out for bagels yesterday morning, entertaining them at a playground, then taking them both to get their hair cut. (Molly was on Emergency Pie Duty. We had a picnic dinner with friends yesterday evening. Our job was dessert. The original dessert failed spectacularly, so Molly had to scramble to make a pie, and thus I had the kids. The pie, by the way, was delicious.)

Anyway, while the kids were as good as could be expected, I did get a few ironic Happy Father’s Day! greetings from strangers when they were at their most hyper. That was my day in a nutshell. I hope everybody else enjoyed theirs!

That One Is My Other Brother

That One Is My Other Brother, originally uploaded by B.K. Dewey.

This has become a motif in Alex’s drawings. This picture has Daddy, Mommy, Patrick, Asher, T.J., Alex… and his other brother, who only Alex can see. The other brother doesn’t have a name, and he always has extra arms, legs, and eyes. We have LOTS of drawings like this now!

Sick Superheros

Our household has finally recovered from having everybody sick last week. We spent a lot of time cooped up indoors… the superhero capes helped relieve the monotony.

My favorite part of this photo is Alex’s superhero face. He’s so ready to fight crime.

Can the world have too many cute popsicle pictures? I didn’t think so.

Our Hero!

Alex’s favorite movie right now is The Incredibles. Dressing up like a superhero is becoming a pretty big part of the weekend.
