It’s 6:30 in the morning. I’m awake, Dad!
Nighttime
30 03 2006We’re still training Alex to sleep in his bassinet at night. Typically, he goes only a couple of hours before he wakes up. He sleeps much better when he’s resting on one of us. Sometimes, that’s the best way for Mom or Dad to sleep, too.

Future Linebacker
30 03 2006It’s normal for babies to lose weight after they’re born. And sure enough, when Alex was weighed last Wednesday, he was down to 9 pounds 3 ounces.
What’s not normal is to get past birth weight so quickly. Alex had his first visit to the pediatrician last week. New weight? 10 pounds 7 ounces.
At this rate, he’ll be 6’4, 240 pounds and playing for the Seahawks on his third birthday.

Grandmas
26 03 2006Friday was the changing of the guard. Grandma Brown went back to St. Louis, and Grandma Martineau and Great-Grandma Ellis came to town. Everybody’s been posing for pictures! Here’s Grandma Brown before she left on Friday:
And here’s Grandma Martineau this morning:
And we can’t forget Great-Grandma Ellis:
All the grandmas have been a big help around the house. I don’t know how we’ll manage without them!

Homecoming
21 03 2006Alex came home today!
Both Mom and baby are in good shape now. Alex is a little jaundiced, but nothing to be worried about. He’s eating and sleeping well. The biggest problem is he has his days and nights mixed up. We need to work on that! Here’s Molly and Alex at the hospital, all dressed up and ready to go:
This was also Alex’s first time in a carseat. Like most kids, a car seat and a car ride put him right to sleep. It’s amazing. I just hope we don’t have to resort to long, 2am car rides to readjust that night-and-day thing.
Alex seems to be adjusting well to life at our house. The question we’re all waiting to answer is how well the house — and the other critters that live in our house — will adjust to Alex. To show you what I mean, here’s Alex at the house today:
But look who considers that bassinet her home:
We’ll see how that battle of wills eventually works out!

Baby’s First Bath
21 03 2006I should have uploaded this picture on Sunday — but you can understand that I wanted to spend more time at the hospital instead of sitting at home in front of the computer.
Some careful cropping prevented this from being inappropriate for immature audiences.

Happy Birthday, Alex!
19 03 2006I only have a couple of minutes to type this before I head back to the hospital, so I apologize for the brevity — but today is Alexander Kenneth Dewey’s birthday! He was born this morning at 1:15 AM. He was a big sucker. He weighed 9 lbs. 11 oz, and was 22.5 inches long. Oddly enough, those are my exact sizes when I was born! Isn’t it great to see genetics at work? Mom and baby are both doing well.
Here are a few photos.
